About us
Best This compares products and tells you what we found. Price matters. So does what people think of a product after they have actually lived with it. We also check something most list pages skip: whether a product is reasonable to keep in a home, honest about what it contains, and clear about the environmental cost of using it.
That is a harder question than a star rating can answer, so we built a standard and apply the same one to every product we list. The short version is below. The method, step by step, lives on How We Rate.
Two scores, shown separately
A Buyer Score is our read on how a product is working out for people who already own it: ratings, review volume, and how it prices against the rest of the category. A Standards Score is what we found when we checked claims, safety documentation, and independent verification. We keep them separate because a product can be well liked and still be a poor fit for your lungs, your body, or your water supply.
How ranking order is set
The order products appear in comes from an overall score built from both. A product that buyers love but nobody has verified should not top a page on popularity alone. A thoroughly documented product that people find frustrating to live with should not either. Because both parts stay on the page, you can see which side a ranking is leaning on.
Best This earns a commission when you buy through some of the links on this site. That does not change the scoring rules. Partners do not pay for a higher rank.
